Boot the computer in Safe Mode   (basic diagnostic mode that does not load system drivers and is used to fix any device conflicts that may exist in keeping the system from operating properly.)

Windows 95/98/ME

  1. Shut down the computer and reapply power
  2. As the system is powering up, hold down the Shift key on the keyboard until the Windows splash screen is displayed then let go of the Shift key.
  3. After the system boots up you will see a message about the computer has started in Safe Mode, click OK to proceed.
  4. When the computer is restarted it will automatically boot in Normal Mode

Windows 2000/XP (Home and Pro)

  1. Shut down the computer and reapply power
  2. As the system is powering up, start tapping the F8 key on the keyboard until you see the Boot Option Menu.
  3. Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on the keyboard and press Enter.
  4. After the system boots up you will see a message about the computer has started in Safe Mode, click OK to proceed.
  5. When the computer is restarted it will automatically boot in Normal Mode
